Mode of Transport
- There is public transport (Autobus du Lot) available available within the village, itself however the bus is very infrequent and limited in destinations. Details of the timetable are set out in the General Information section.
- There are also train connections within 10kms of the village however you would obviously still require transport to the train. The closest two (2) are: SNCF (local line only) at Betaille (4.7 Kms) and SNCF Railway at St Denis les Martel (6.00kms) with trains to Toulouse (direction-South) or Brive-La-Gaillarde or Paris {Austerlitz} (direction-North).
- Taxis also are available but distances would result in expensive fares.
Given these limitations we strongly recommend that you have a motor vehicle. Car rental in France is simple and straightforward and relatively inexpensive. Where possible organize rental from your home country (Australia, for example) prior to departure. In our experience this usually proves to be the most cost effective method. Having a motor vehicle ensures that you will to get the most out of your visit to this beautiful region of France, enabling you to visit some villages and sites that are not as easily accessible by public transport.

A few suggestions:
Point of Arrival to Carennac
If you arrive in France by air and prefer not to travel a very long distance by car from your arrival destination, there are car rental locations in most large towns within the region and in neighbouring regions. You can travel from Paris on the train departing Paris Austerlitz going to Toulouse with stops at Limoges and Brive-La-Gaillarde (the closest major town to Carennac on this route).
At Brive-La-Gaillarde, within 100 metres of the railway station there are both Avis and Europe Car outlets. A bit further afield but a very pleasant drive (mostly on the auto route) at Limoges railway station there are also car rental outlets.
However, please also take note that while car rental offices are open at the airport everyday, other retail locations are generally closed on Sunday and for lunch (between 12.00pm and 2.00pm) on weekdays and Saturday.
